Sex of the Baby...

Cathy gave me one (count it...one!) decision that I could make regarding the pregnancy and impending birth. That decision was whether or not to find out the sex of the baby. After careful consideration and research, I have decided to go ahead and find out. The facts are these...

1. We live in the 21st century. We can try to hide from it, but it is simply too difficult NOT to go ahead and take advantage of it's advantages. For example, this blog. And combination fax/copier/printer/scanners...they're awesome.

2. Yellow and green are okay, but frankly, are just not very flattering when they are the only thing a baby has to wear, look at, suck on, or play with.

3. I am (this is going to shock some of you) impatient. It bugs me that it takes this long for me to write this entry. Tomorrow I may buy a speak-to-text program just to speed things up a bit. The pregnancy as a whole is taking too long...why make it worse by not finding information out when I can.

4. While many opinions have been cast my way to not find out the sex, with the reason being overwhelmingly "because it's more fun that way," I find the lack of people that I know with children whose sex was a surprise at birth...um...disturbing. i.e. It's only "fun" when it's other people torturing themselves for several months longer than necessary.

5. Jeez...is this ever going to end?!? Did I mention my impatience?

So, witness, if you please, the newest poll placed this evening. Call it a really lousy countdown to...wait for it...Gend-O-Rama 2007!!! On the 12th of December, 2007 at 10:30am (if the doctor isn't running behind) we will be counting appendages (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).

For those that want to bid for the running favorite in the poll, Cathy "feels" like Pumpkin is a boy and has been calling her "him" for weeks. Gene "feels" like not letting Cathy be "right" and is also leaning toward boy (but secretly doesn't care). And the Magic 8-ball says the future is all a bit too murky right now...I'll check again later.

We did not know with either of our kids and I don't care what anyone says finding out via ultrasound is not the same thing as finding out in the delivery room. I know, I know, you are "surprised" either way...but not really. Plus, you lose all the fun of thinking of half the names out there; you eliminate a whole list when you are down to one sex! I still say you should wait; after all, how many real surprises are there in life? However, if you decide to go ahead and find out I can't wait to hear!

I didn't know that you waited to find out, but I think (probably too much) that I still will find out. I agree that it is a different surprise.
